Night's out

Been a long time since I had a night's out per se with friends.

Everytime we made plans for dinner, I had to cancel coz I have conference calls. Finally managed to get together with them last friday. A couple of them are my ex-colleagues and one is still my colleague today although I hardly meet him around in office. Yes my office is THAT big.

One of the ex=colleague brought his wife along whom we have met many times and get along rather well. We went to Changi Village for some local delights and I suggested going to a little watering hole at the beach near my house after din. Nothing exciting there but it has been a long time since I drank you see. So this is what I started the night with:
We actually intended to end the night when the place got really noisy with this bunch of ah peks! However, changing a table to an outdoor seating area solved the problem. One of my ex-colleagues then suggested we have some whisky! Wat de! I hate whisky but decided to give it a go. We ordered a $150 Mccallan (i think it's spelt tis way) and got free 7-up as the mixer. Tasted it and yup, reiterated the fact - I hate whisky! Forgot to take a picture coz i was rather high from just a glass of red wine...Sucker! Anyway, we barely finished half a bottle. So it means we have to go back there within a month to finish it....

Mr Raj Viresh

In order to finish my book on Natascha, I stayed up late on both Monday and Tuesday.
It literally means I was going to bed at nearly 2am.
So I was definitely not a happy camper when my mobile rang at 6am this morning!!!
"Hello, hello, Mr Viresh?!?!" accented heavily by an Indian voice. I was so drowsy but I managed to retort "WRONG NUMBER" before I hung up the phone. Less than a minute later, the phone rang again! WTF! I picked up ad was ready to set off my tirade before the other party hung up. WTF again!?!?!
It's common for people to ring the wrong number but this is happening too often! I have been receiving calls for Raj on my phone lately. WHY? Because Mr Raj Viresh (as I found out this morning) had mobile number: 83399XXX whereas my number starts with 983399XX. We have literally the same numbers except that his started with 8. People are so used to pressing 9 to start for mobile numbers that my phone would ring the moment they hit the 7th number for Mr Raj.
There was a caller who rang me 3 times even after i told him that he had the wrong number! He still managed to sound indignant and ask,"Raj not there meh??" He then said isn't this 83399XX??
One day, if I ever found out the last digit of the mobile number for Mr Raj, I might just call him......

Recent Reads

I bought a book from Kinokuniya over the weekend.
It was so interesting I finished it by yesterday night. It's a real life account of Natascha Kampusch, the girl who was kept in captivity for 8.5years.
It's a long time to be held captive, I have not even been married that long!

Her story was not dramatized and it was presented matter of factly. I am impressed by her strength for survival and how she refused to be labelled a victim even up till today. Good read!

Back to how I got my book. On Sunday, I went to Kinokuniya and could not find the book. So I went to the Information counter to seek help. There were already a couple of people at the counter so I lingered behind. A staff then indicated to me to move forward and asked how can she help. Told her I was looking for a booked titled "3096" (could not recall full name) about a girl called Natascha. She then went on to type on her computer and I clarified that the title should in be numbers. Whilst she was still searching, the caucasian guy that was already at the counter before me picked up a book from the counter and asked, "Are you looking for this?"

How duh! This book has a special place at the counter for sale and the staff didn't even know. I have an excuse for not knowing as the guy blocked my view *hurhur*

Farewell to my Ipod

First the black lines appeared on the screen.
I downloaded some applications that was supposed to get rid of the "stuck" pixels which caused the black lines. It did not work!
Not long after, it goes absolutely black and silent when I am in the middle of some song.
So you think it's a flat battery and so I charged it on my ipod dock and continued playing songs at the same time.
Next thing I knew, the music stopped and all I heard was "tiak tiak tiak" coming from my ipod.
A dreaded picture of an ipod with a sad smiley face appeared on screen and a message that says visit www.apple.com/support
I think I can declare my ipod has finally met it's demise. *Sobz*

Missing Persons Ad

I have an old friend from icq that tends to disappear.
So we made a pact today. If I lose contact with him again, despite the advances in technology with facebook and smartphones, I will put out a missing persons ad on my blog. Stay tuned and I hope I do not have to do that Melvin!

United States of America

I have been yearning to visit US for the longest time.
Never had the chance but we finally took the dive this year!
Visited the NATAS fair again, braved the crowds and came out victorious with 2 air tickets on ANA to LA. Wooohooooo!
Will be travelling between 21 Dec ad 05 Jan and so it means Christmas & New Year in a foreign land, so exciting!! No package tours for us this time. We will rent a car and plan our own itinerary, more time for shopping!!!

For the next 3 mths, I will scrimp and save just so I can spend with no reservations when there.
I need to work out my shopping list soon!

Tennis

US Open came and gone. Poor Federer...he is really getting nowhere.
For the first time in like 6 years, he is not even in the finals?? Some consolation though, he was beaten by Djokovic at the semis. Nole is soooooo cute! Enough of the silly gushing! Again, it's just too bad Novak lost to the spanish bull.

I doubt I would ever be able to afford to watch such tournaments live, so imagine how happy I was when i found out they are coming to compete in KL for some Malaysian Open. Ok granted, the big names will not be here but I can make do with Soderling and whoeever. So there you have it, I purchased tics to the semis and finals on 2 & 3 Oct! I will zip in on a jetplane on Sat morning and come home on sunday night. I will buy some big tennis ball and make sure I get some autographs! Hope they do not telecast the matches on telly, else you may just see me scrambling to get autographs....
